The Diet Stuff

Well, the Month Of Eating Right is over. I bottomed out at 224. It’s not the 213 I was aiming at, but I’m pretty happy with it anyway. I reclaimed some old pants. 🙂

This month so far has been filled with utter gluttony. I’m actually kinda craving good, whole food again. The way I was eating was pretty easy, so I’m planning on continuing that way indefinitely. I just won’t be as militant about it. As this evening’s waffles-for-dinner have shown.

Kayak trip

During Spring Break, Tru and I paddled down a couple of local rivers with Ron and Benjamin. It was fun–we stopped at an island and nabbed a geocache, and saw a dead coyote. Something for everyone!

Flickr takes video now, so here’s a little clip. You can see the whole set here. And here are the pics from Ron and Benjamin’s perspective.

Going down…

Well, today is the one week anniversary of the Month of Eating Healthier. This morning’s weigh-in has me at 229.2, a four pound decrease in weight from one week ago. And that’s after spending Friday night chowing Dominos pepperoni pizza, all day Saturday eating at McDonald’s and Dairy Queen. Not to mention the beer. I seriously grossed myself out a bit and was glad to go back to my monkish food on Sunday. And even on Sunday I didn’t quite get back on the healthy train, since we went up to the snow to play, and had a cookout and I ate a couple of big hotdogs.

I hit 229 a while ago when running a lot, but never dropped below it. I suspect I will probably drop to 228 by tomorrow morning, which will be the lowest weight since I-don’t-know-when. It’s all “lowest ever” from here on out.

Dropping 20

I’m on a new kick this month. I’m going to try and drop 20 lbs by the end of the month. I’m doing this with the standard diet/exercise combo. The diet is basically a slow-carb diet of just a few meals. My breakfast this morning was scrambled egg whites, black beans and asparagus. It was tasty and there’s no portion stuff to deal with–just eat till I’m full.

So the weigh-in this morning was 233.4. That’s the starting point. I’ll try to get to around 213 by the end of this month. I won’t be posting daily updates or anything, just a weigh-in now and again. Wish me luck!

Don’t Kill Your Brother

Asher’s got a problem: he’s 3.

Tonight he was rolling around in bed, talking 3-year old smack. Truman comes downstairs (they share a room) and tells me that “Asher told me, “I’m gonna kill you.”” So I go upstairs and talk to Ashy about that. Kid is hard, though. He don’t crack. No admission whatsoever. Except when I finally say, “Ok, Ashy, what do you need to do?”, expecting an answer like, “I need to go to sleep, dad.” What’s he come back with? “Not kill Truman.”

Yeah, kid. Don’t kill your brother. And go to sleep now.

When mom’s away…

Amy went to the beach for a little retreat, so the boys and I are destroying holding down the fort. This evening, after gorging ourselves on pizza, Tru decided to show off his mad burping skillz. Asher eventually gets in on the act too…

Buck stops here

Jason tagged me. I hate this stuff, so I’ll just answer and spare others. Here’s the deal:

  • Pick up the nearest book of 123 pages or more. No cheating!
  • Find page 123
  • Find the first 5 sentences
  • Post the next 3 sentences
  • Tag 5 people sorry, no

The book is The 80/20 Principle. The following text is pulled from a chapter on the ways in which the principle relates to negotiation:

Similarly, they respond to concessions, even trivial ones.
(new paragraph)
Twenty percent or fewer of the points at issue will comprise over 80 percent of the value of the disputed territory. You may think this will be obvious to both sides, but people like to win points, even completely unimportant ones.
